Coach D" Ron DiGravio

Coach D played at Purdue.

NAME :

D” Ron DiGravio

Ron DiGravio passed away after a valiant battle against cancer, but he touched countless lives over the course of his 60 years, and many of his positive impacts were made in the Marshfield Football program.

Coach D was at different times a physical education teacher, athletic director, head football coach, and assistant football coach at Marshfield High School. He was the AD who hired a young man named Lou Silva to take over as head coach of the MHS football squad, which was a decision that seems to have worked out just fine (to say the least).

Born in Quincy and raised in Weymouth, Coach D graduated in 1960 from Weymouth High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball.

He later graduated from Purdue, where he was an All-American at quarterback, leading the nation in pass efficiency his senior season, earning Team MVP honors in the process. He also played baseball for Purdue, and he turned down an offer from the Boston Red Sox to continue his education.

Coach D played two years of professional football in the Canadian Football League. He then began working as a physical education teacher and head football coach at MHS in 1969.

He had a brilliant mind for the game, and his vision was unparalleled. Many young coaches were in awe of his ability to watch a play and seemingly be able to recount what all 22 players did just seconds later. In his later years, he not only had a great impact on the quarterbacks he coached, but also on the younger members of the coaching staff, who he was always gracious with and willing to share his insights.

Coach D is beloved and is legendary among the Marshfield Football program not only because he was a marvelous coach, but just as much (and frankly even more) because he was a marvelous man.

Even though they are no longer an active part of Marshfield Football, some coaches have made such an important impact on our team’s history and tradition that the story of the program can’t be told without mentioning their names. This is a page intended to recognize those men.

Coach Sean Lynch

NAME :

Sean Lynch

Coach Sean Lynch helped establish an identity and an attitude along Marshfield’s offensive line, starting in the mid-1990s.

After playing football for Duxbury High School and Mass Maritime, he arrived to coach at Marshfield High School in 1994.

Coach Lynch was demanding and intense, and his influence helped establish a tradition of excellence along the offensive line at MHS. His knowledge of the game was first rate, and he was promoted to offensive coordinator in his later years with the Rams.

The ripple of Coach Lynch’s influence still reverberated within the program all the way through the 2014 season, as one of Coach Lynch’s star pupils as a player was Coach Chris Arouca.
